No longer will fans have to watch Dale Kingston’s lectures on clunky, 10-tonne TV sets. Ain’t science somethin’?
Here’s a televisual treat for all fans of Lieutenant Columbo: an official Columbo YouTube channel packed with high quality, HD clips and full episodes!
I’d noticed a few new Columbo videos circulating in the second half of 2017 and had admired the high quality production values, crisp visuals and perfect sound. However, it wasn’t until this month that I discovered they’re all from the official Columbo channel!
The channel uploads a new video three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays), and these could be anything from legendary scenes, best-of compilation clips and 10-minute episode highlight summaries. They released the below 2-minute series overview to commemorate the show’s 50th anniversary in February 2018, which is very nicely done.
Most excitingly, the channel started uploading FULL EPISODES in early March! At time of writing, the available episodes are Murder by the Book and Death Lends a Hand, so it’s hopefully not too much of a stretch to think they’ll all eventually be available for eager viewers to enjoy at their leisure. What a treat! This could also be a boon for the #ColumboTV monthly live-tweet events.
NB – I have been informed by at least one UK fan that the full episodes are not viewable there. This may be true for other jurisdictions, too.
“Most excitingly, the channel started uploading FULL EPISODES in early March! What a treat!”
Needless to say, if you love Columbo this is a video channel you should spend a good deal of quality time on and subscribe to straight away! In a little over 6 months it’s only accrued a little over 1,000,000 views, suggesting that a great many fans have been oblivious to its existence, just as I was. I’m sure between us we can ramp this up and see the channel enjoying the success it deserves.
Need convincing of the quality? Then revel in the HD glory of one of Columbo‘s greatest ever scenes: the Lieutenant out-witting Santini live on stage in Now You See Him.
Let me know what you think of this new channel in the comments section below!
When Peter Falk roasted Frank Sinatra and was in character, while asking for an autograph for his wife, he ends up saying “make it to Rose “ so technically he named Mrs. Columbo’s first name. Just a little trivia, you can watch it under “Dean Martin celebrity Roast of Frank Sinatra!! Enjoy!!!
I wonder if they’ve run into an obstacle. Four months ago one episode was uploaded and three months ago, three episodes were uploaded, however, there hasn’t been a single full length episode since that time.
Maybe they dangled a few full-length episodes to drive interest but now have enough subscribers and viewers that they don’t feel they need to? Would be nice to see a few more added, but I can’t get in contact with the channel directly to find out more.
They’ve condensed one of the episodes into 10 minutes.
I recall that some years ago there was an issue between some actors and a studio (or studios) with regard to putting episodes online. It had something to do with something called “residual” payments to the actors when an episode is aired again.
If I’m remembering it correctly, airing the shows on the Internet was not a part of the contract, as the Internet was not in existence, so the studios may not have felt it necessary to compensate them for putting the episodes online.
Perhaps some of your readers who are more informed about this practice can shed some light on it.
It’s a pity they aren’t uploading any more Columbo episodes on the YouTube channel.
It was a writer’s strike in 2007-2008 which had the issues with putting shows on the Internet.
And it was a writer’s strike that led to Columbo being made into a television show. 🙂 🙂
Great site , you have to love Columbo , nothing new on TV this day and age like the great detective.
The full episode of “A Stitch in Crime” is now on the channel as well.

I took a look at this new Columbo channel on Youtube. Just great! 🙂
I had been following since late last year. I was so happy when they posted the full episodes. Though I have them on DVD, I have really missed the Netflix easy access. Bravo to Universal for doing this channel.
