You don’t need to have an intellect as sharp as Oliver Brandt’s to have noticed a distinct lack of activity on the Columbophile blog these past few weeks.
Regular readers may be aware that my four-year sojourn in the deepest Aussie Outback, and the comparative leisure that provided, is now over. I returned to full-time employment in January and now work in the field of sports marketing. Given that it’s peak season here in Oz, this means my time is a good deal taken up – including Sundays, which was my traditional writing day.
Until I’m better able to balance my time, output on the blog will be on a lower level. I do have several articles in various stages of completion, but can never quite sum up the time or find the headspace to do them justice – and anything less just wouldn’t do.
Fear not, though, they will get done and I will still get round to completing reviews of the last two episode reviews of the Columbo saga in the next month or so (although I’ll be honest, spending ‘quality time’ with Murder With Too Many Notes is hardly my idea of a fun).
So keep the faith my dear friends, and I’ll hope to be delivering the high-quality goods once again in the not-too-distant future. Until then, keep those Columbo flags flying at full mast…
Thanks for all your work!!! God i love Columbo!! I even had a dream last night that i saw Columbo walking around in some kind of a graduation ceremony. I got up and chased after him so i could tell him how much i loved him. And to get a picture of him. Needless to say i got it. 😂 Take care fellow Columbo lover.
Okay, Mr. Sportsmarketing Columbophile. A rather good idea to create a Top10 article in your spare time.
Top 10 sports activity in the Columbo saga. 😉
I have probably been comparing your rankings of the original “series” for the last six months, since we got the entire DVD collection for $40, and can’t wait for your rankings of 1989 to 2003.
I am brand new at this blog, but read it every day, to get caught up. “Columbo” was an all-time favorite of my parents back during its original run, and I’m hooked. Thanks CP.
Thanks for the update, CP! Do what you have to do, we’re not going anywhere. 🙂
Your content is worth the wait.
Columbo fans–who have access to this YouTube channel–will enjoy this brief documentary on Columbo by “Movie Man Eric” Houston:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKEIotZB9oA. It’s only 16-17 minutes. Not much new here, but it’s a nice summation of the Columbo character and story elements, and features plenty of clips from interviews and excerpts.
Yes a great bio of Columbo/Peter Falk – thanks James for the link.
…and nice to hear from you CP. Take your time – family first.
You take care of yourself! As to the upcoming episode, except for the movie theme schtick and Billy Connolly’s often impenetrable accent, I liked it. The victim’s wife, in particular, was well-acted, touching, and beautiful. There are many episodes I’d rate lower.
Dude, you are a shining credit to writers everywhere.
Please do not worry about the blog or our reactions to it. We are so glad for you.
I love reading your work, please never doubt that, but your job and your family (not in that order) are the most important things for you right now.
Hope your daughter likes Perth
The Columbo episodes with Patrick McGoohan were the best!
Aussie Aussie Aussie Oy Oy Oy!
Thank you so much for sharing your contemplations. So many others of us appreciate the words put to otherwise obscure connections.
No worries, M8! Do what ya gotta do first, foremost and always. We Columbombies will always be here, as patient as the good detective letting the bad guys trip over their own feet/mistakes and getting nicked!
👍👍
You do you! We’ll be here for you when you’re ready, willing, and able.
You take care of YOU and your family. We will wait patiently for your glorious return. My grandfather told me never to stress over something that was supposed to be fun. (uttered when I dreaded my turn at bat with the bases loaded at the bottom of the ninth inning of American softball. Have I mentioned how I utterly suck at baseball? No? Well, yes, I’m abysmal. Can’t throw, can’t hit, but the Catholic nuns insisted everyone play. The opposing team’s outfield came WAY in just in case I should actually manage to connect with the ball while my team merely prayed I not strike out. So the coach, my grandfather, my entire team not on base stood behind the fence screaming NO for don’t swing, and SWING for, well, swinging at the oncoming projectile. The opposing team was laughing so hard, they committed an error letting the winning run make it to home base.)
I still hate baseball, but LOVE your blog. Take it easy. I’ll wait with bated breath for your next column.
It’s good to be employed!
Good hear an update from you. I know what you mean with regard to “Notes” but at least it’s not quite as bad as what was on last night – “No Time to Die”. I started to watch it but just couldn’t bring myself to continue.
Thanks for the update, good sir! It’s important that you tend to your world; we have a fabulous backlog of your Columbo wit & wisdom until we have the pleasure/hilarity of hearing from you again. Enjoy & greetings from Greenwich Village! ✌️♥️
I also work in sports so completely understand. As fun & fulfilling as it is, it takes alot out of me, especially my head space. Looking forward to your posts whenever you post.
I’m not surprised you’re putting off watching “notes”. Root canal surgery would be more appealing. LOL.
I fear you’re right. I’ve only watched it twice ever and each time I was aghast.
Good to hear from you CP, thanks for the update – did you know columbophile blog has been mentioned in the Sunday Times today as part of an article about how Columbo is becoming trendy, partly helped by Poker Face? You’re now world famous!
I was NOT aware of that, thanks Paul. What section was it in? My parents read it, so I’ll alert them to check it out.
The ‘Style’ supplement magazine – apparently the fashions and style of Columbo is making a comeback – partly helped by this new Poker Face tv series and the success of Glass Onion etc Columbo is starting to get cool again!
Columbo was ALWAYS cool! lol
Thank goodness for that. Beige macs and sports jackets are definitely preferable to black hoodies.
Marvellous! I’ll let the folks know
